America is Cooked: SydCarmy and Brump
A State of the Union on the biggest ships in American culture.
DISCLAIMER: SEASON 3 OF THE BEAR SPOILERS AHEAD. DO NOT READ AFTER THE BRUMP SECTION IF YOU WANT TO AVOID MAJOR PLOT POINTS.
It’s an unusually perplexing time in America, and nowhere has this manifested more than the return of the most prolific duos, SydCarmy (Sydney and Carmy—The Bear) and Brump (Biden and Trump—U.S.A Politics.)
We need structure and order in this country, and I am ready to bring that to you, America. This State of the Union will declare the winners and losers of the week in the Sydcarmy and Brump ships.
Brump
Winner: Robert Kennedy Jr.
His cousin, Jack Schlossberg ( a direct descendant of Grey Garden's Little Eddie and former President John F. Kennedy), denounced him and was endlessly ridiculed by the media for his lunatic political views. All he had left was his pet ravens and a dream.

After this last debate between Trump and Biden, the public scratched their heads and questioned who was left to take the mantle. Fulfilling the requirements by not being Trump or Biden, a winner by default, Robert Kennedy Jr. Enjoy your political win this week; I’m afraid it’s the only one you’ll have.
You’re safe… for now: Any other country.
Seriously, no explanation is needed. You’re safe… for now.
Losers: American Democracy, The Democratic Party, The Biden Administration, The Justice System, The 2024 Election
Experiencing a collective hangover from a baffling debate and the past eight years, the American public is in dire need of some electrolytes and ibuprofen in the shape of a decent political candidate and a somewhat functioning electoral system. Do you think I just fell out of a coconut tree? I know we exist in the context in which we live and what came before us. I’m just tired of doing the laundry, figuring out what to eat, and finding a way to make sure that the American election cycle once again does not mentally destroy me.
SydCarmy
Winner: Luca
Carmy’s ex-boyfriend, I mean, former culinary colleague Luca, showed up and showed out. He may be a chef, but he and his little headband served all of episode 10.
He looked beautiful, had an excellent meal, and was mentally and emotionally present (Something a certain restaurant owner should learn.) Growing into his eyebrows, Luca ushered in a new era and officially ended rat boy summer.
You’re safe for now: Sydney
I don’t know what the writers spiked this season with, but SydCarmy is hanging on by a thread. Last season, the ship was so real that even the internet could not fathom making an edit of the two as good as the one the show unintentionally made.
But this season, she was delegated to Head of the Board – a sounding board for Carmy’s breakdown over his girlfriend and literally breaking down cardboard at the restaurant.
Stressed and struggling, our girl is not the winner of the week. But all hope is not lost for Sydney, as a new apartment and the job opportunity of a lifetime looms over the following season. She’s safe… for now.
Losers: Carmy and the Claire Bear Crew.
Carmy is this week’s loser. He has lost the plot, Claire, AND potentially Sydney. Dealing with the culmination of success (opening his dream restaurant) and failure (being trapped in a freezer on the opening of his dream restaurant), Carmy finds out this season that his hard work has not paid off.
Despite years of pouring everything into his work and achieving critical and commercial success, he feels just as insufficient as he did as a young adult. Carmy’s lack of recognition from his family, former employer, and food critics nurtured his destructive acts of self-preservation. He denies himself the approval to have healthy relationships with his co-workers, girlfriend, and himself unless they surpass an untouchable level of perfection.
By episode ten, the show teases the end of SydCarmy and maybe the end of The Bear as we know it. All the characters have grown emotionally and professionally except for Carmy, who is still stuck in his past, trapped in a metaphorical and literal freezer.
Ugh The Bear is not what I was expecting this season
